I've set up a new blog featuring pictures of our critters. I'm just not savvy enough to figure out a better way but learning how to do this shows that at least I have learned something. PuppyDogTales

Dancing Queen

Emily attended her first school dance last night. Excited is an extreme understatement - for the last two days I didn't know if I had a 9 year old or a 20 year old single girl on my hands. Her room is littered with clothes from her closet. She's made a trial run with just about every dress and pair of pants she owns. The only thing she was sure to wear was the boots. It had to be the boots.
I dropped her off at 5:00 and as we stood in the line to sign in, she bounced and giggled merrily, hardly able to control her excitement. I'm sure most people there thought she had never been out of the house before.

I guess it has to do with being the middle child and finally, after all these years, having something that is just for you. After spending the last 13 years - with many more to go - of mothering, I certainly understand that. But it's hard, let me tell you, to watch my baby girl complete these rites of passage. To watch her add another check on the list of growing up.

She's off this morning to work with her dad. Another sign of growing up, I suppose, that she has a bank account and money of her own. At least she can budget and is showing herself to be sensible about it. If only it looked so promising when it comes to boys...
